LSU Health professor, Dr. Nicolas Bazan to present new discoveries on neurodegenerative diseases at international conference
World renowned neuroscientist and director of LSU Health New Orleans’ Neuroscience Center of Excellence, Dr. Nicolas Bazan and his team made an innovative discovery that can change the approach to treatment of critical brain injuries and illnesses including stroke, ALS, traumatic brain injuries (concussions), spinal cord injury, Alzheimer’s, and Parkinson’s. By uncovering a neuroprotective molecule produced by the brain, for which Bazan and his team coined the name Elovanoids (ELVs), they are working to find ways to put those molecules to work in the brain to protect against brain injuries and neurodegenerative illnesses.
Match Day reveals 50% of LSU Health New Orleans medical graduates will stay in Louisiana for residency training
On Friday, 188 LSU Health New Orleans graduating medical students gathered at Audubon Tea Room to discover the results of the annual National Resident Match Program (NRMP). Match Day results revealed that 50% of graduates will remain in Louisiana for residency training. Of those, 80% will enter an LSU Health residency program.
LSU Health Professor, Dr. Lucio Miele, Appointed as Director of LSU-LCMC Health Cancer Center
LSU President, William F. Tate IV, LCMC Health President and CEO, Greg Feirn, and LSU Health New Orleans Chancellor Steve Nelson, MD are excited to announce that Lucio Miele, MD, PhD will serve as Director of the LSU-LCMC Health Cancer Center. This announcement follows current Director, Dr. Joe Ramos’ acceptance of an executive leadership position at the Lundquist Institute in California. Dr. Miele and Dr. Ramos will work together through the end of January to ensure a smooth transition.
126 Degrees Conferred at 2024 Fall Commencement Ceremony
On Wednesday, December 11, 2024, 126 students graduated from four of LSU Health New Orleans’ six professional health schools. The graduation ceremony took place at 10:00 am at the UNO Lakefront Arena. Graduates included students from LSU Health’s Schools of Medicine, Nursing, Graduate Studies and Public Health.
