Introduction

Microsoft Exchange Online Protection (EOP) is a cloud-based email filtering service that provides messaging hygiene (protects our organization against email borne spam and malware).  All LSUHSC messages to and from the Internet must pass through EOP.   EOP also allows customizations to better support our specific needs

What does EOP Do?

EOP has many built-in protections like anti-spam and anti-virus, but also allows LSUHSC to customize our experience.  Such customizations include whitelisting or blocking senders, adding protective disclaimers, filtering based on content or other message properties, and more.  Messages blocked by custom configurations are quarantined and any legitimate false positive email accidentally blocked can be released upon request.

Secure Email

EOP uses TLS encryption whenever sending or receiving email with other domains that support this encryption.  Please keep in mind that not all domains will support encryption, so if you have any email content that must be protected, please use LSU Health FileS to send the message, and include the protected information as an attachment to that message.

Awareness

Please continue to be mindful of suspicious properties in email and never trust email sent from unknown senders. Technical protective measures are in a continuous state of review and improvement, but technology alone will not protect against 100% of potential threats. Report any suspicious activity to spam@lsuhsc.edu.
