HUMAN SUBJECTS RESEARCH TRAINING REQUIREMENTS
Beginning January 1, 2027, the LSUHSC-NO IRB will implement updated human subjects research training requirements. These changes will streamline protocol processing, reduce administrative burden on investigators, and maintain compliance with applicable federal regulations.
What’s changing?
- CITI training will be the standard: Required human subjects research training will be fulfilled through the designated CITI courses.
- Training Requirements will be the same for both LSUHSC-NO and external researchers.
- CATS training will no longer be monitored by the IRB, with the exception of Shipping of Biological Materials, which remains required for personnel who ship biospecimens.
- Current training requirements will remain in effect through December 31, 2026. Researchers should complete the newly required CITI courses by this date to prepare for the transition.
Additional guidance:
- The new FDA-focused GCP course replaces other GCP-related courses for the applicable studies listed above.
- Researchers conducting international research may also be required by sponsors to complete GCP for Clinical Trials with Investigational Drugs and Biologics (ICH Focus).
- Personnel involved in shipping biospecimens may fulfill this requirement with the Mayo Clinic IATA Dangerous Goods Shipping training.
Renewal Reminders
CITI sends email notifications when a course is within 30 days of expiration. Researchers should monitor these reminders and ensure their required training remains current.
