Classes by Request


Library classes and orientations are scheduled at various times throughout the year and by request. Contact your School Liaison to schedule. Classes can be customized as needed. Classes are limited to LSUHSC-NO faculty, staff, or students.

General Library Orientation - Basic

  • Lessons learned in using the Library's online catalog, INNOPAC to locate books and journals that are available in print or online.
  • Instruction on accessing, searching, and retrieving relevant bibliographic information from PubMed.
  • Sharing secrets for verifying "garbled" book or journal citations.
  • Quick and easy way to complete InterLibrary Loan forms.
    This course is usually offered 2 times per month.

RefWorks is a Web-based bibliography and database manager. Create your own personal database by importing references from online databases. Automatically format a paper and bibliography in seconds.

In this hands-on course participants will learn how to:

  • Create a personalized RefWorks log in that is accessible from anywhere
  • Import references from PubMed & other databases
  • Organize references into folders
  • Format references into a Works Cited page
  • Explore RefWorks tools to simplify the paper writing process (Write n Cite, RefGrabit)
  • Each LSUHSC user will create and use a personal login

We can design a class or orientation to meet the specific needs of your faculty, staff or students. To customize a research course for your students, email your School's Library Liaison.  Classes are limited to Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center New Orleans current faculty, staff, and students.  Please use this Instruction Request form to schedule a class.
