Building Health Teams Program
Summer is a great time to shift the focus from your studies to other knowledge and skills that will help you be successful in your future!
The Interprofessional Education and Collaborative Practice Office (IPECP) at LSU Health Sciences Center in New Orleans is offering a 4-week program called Building Health Teams. This program is open to high school upperclassmen and any college students interested in learning more about or pursuing a health career.
Healthcare is typically provided through a siloed approach. However, a team approach or an interprofessional collaborative approach to patient care and community health improves health. This summer program will allow students to learn about collaborative practice and identify and learn about the role, training, and expertise of various health professions through a combination of lecture, self-learning, and small group discussion.
Participants will work in small teams to get a better idea of what health career they would like to pursue and/or what roles other health professionals will play on their future health teams. A component of the learning experience is interviewing a health professional/provider. Also, teams will present their learning in a culminating presentation. Speakers from the LSU Health Sciences faculty will join the sessions to give insight into careers ranging from nursing to dental hygiene to physical therapy to laboratory sciences to medicine to public health, and anywhere in between!
Participation in this program can provide you with great talking points for applications, essays, personal statements, cover letters, and more!
The program is held virtually, so participants can join from anywhere!
