Still insisting on using Google to do your research?
While we can’t force you use authoritative resources like PubMed or EBSCOhost’s CINAHL Plus with Full Text to search for journal articles (though we STRONGLY ENDORSE IT and YOU SHOULD), we can supply you with these tricks from Lifehacker.com for the times when Google is your tool.
For example, you can use Google to compare items with “better than” and find similar items with “reminds me of”. In fact, a search for LSU “better than everyone” gets over 19,000 hits!
As the Libraries have moved from print journals to electronic ones, the current journal shelves have been used less and less. So today they’ve been removed. Current print issues will be shelved with the full journal runs on the 5th floor of the Isché Library.
The Library continues to re-organize the 3rd floor to offer an optimum study environment.

In honor of the upcoming Buckeye beating BCS championship game, LSUHSC-NO campus closes at NOON today.
We will open again for regular hours Tuesday, January 8 (tomorrow) at 8AM.
The Libraries (and really the entire campus) will close at 12 noon on Monday, January 7th. The LSU Tigers are playing in the BCS National Championship in the Superdome. The Buckeyes don’t stand a chance.

e-anatomy is an anatomy e-learning web site. More than 1500 slices from normal CT and MR exams were selected in order to cover the entire sectional anatomy of human body. Images were labeled using Terminologia Anatomica. A user-friendly interface allows to cine through multi-slice image series combined with interactive textual information, 3D models and anatomy drawings.

Fall Exam Hours are in session once again. The John P. Isché Library will be open until 12 midnight, 7 days per week until December 21st.

Online Instructions
Three sets of wireless instructions are now available for connecting to the network on campus. Versions for Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Intel PROSet are all available.

The Library now offers an online tutorial to assist users with off campus access.

New Equipment
The Library has purchased a new microforms reader/printer; it is located in the public computer area on the 3rd floor. This new model is digital and users can opt to print directly or save the file to a jump drive.
Returning Service
The New Books Display is back! Check it out on the 3rd floor of the Isché Library.
Resource Expansion
Web of Science, the online version of Science Citation Index and Social Science Citation Index now includes more years. Science Citation Index is now available from 1900-2007 and Social Science Citation Index is now available from 1956.

Starting on January 1, 2008, InfoRetriever with InfoPOEMs will be renamed Essential Evidence Plus.

Web of Knowledge, the online resource that provides you with cited reference searching (Web of Science), a journal table of contents awareness service (Current Contents Connect), and journal performance metrics like impact factors (Journal Citation Reports) is changing it’s look in January.

If you have an iPhone you’ll be pleased to know that Epocrates Online has released a free web-based drug reference that’s optimized for iPhone and iPod touch devices. Just point your Safari browser to the following url to access over 3300 drug monographs (Note: you may be prompted to register with Epocrates):

Currently there’s not much medical software available for iPhone/iTouch. In fact, Apple only recently announced that they would allow developers to create iPhone software in early 2008. However, you can always use the Safari browser on your iPhone to access the many medical databases we have available online, just like on a computer.
A new study published in the Archives of Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine this month states that honey works better to soothe nighttime coughs than cough syrup (ingredient dextromethorphan). The story was picked up my many major news organizations and can be read on the MedlinePlus news feed.
Remember that the Isché Library is open until Midnight every night through the end of exams (December 20th). Stay and study until you turn into a pumpkin.

In September 2006, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) convened a panel of experts to discuss issues related to the emerging public health problem of electronic aggression by adolescents. Aggression ranges from embarrassment to threats of real world violence.
A special issue of Journal of Adolescent Health summarizes the data and recommendations of this panel.
