WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION
Opportunities for educational research arise from everyday teaching and education activities. For example, does one teaching method produce better learning outcomes than another? Is there relationship between teamwork training and effective teamwork practice in the patient care setting? Does replacing lectures with small group teaching alter learner performance on high stakes, standardized knowledge tests? Similarly, many of the creative and original educational programs and materials that faculty members create in their teaching have promise for peer-reviewed publication and contribution to the field. In this workshop, participants will explore various forms of educational research and scholarship and apply these to their own situation. Individuals will participate in activities to identify a potential project and use a systematic approach to design a plan/protocol for pursuing their educational research/scholarship interest. Participants will also explore publication/dissemination venues they might target for contributing the results of their work to the field. Light refreshments will be served. Please share this flyer with colleagues.
We hope to see you on August 28th and bring a colleague! An expanded program of faculty development sessions offered through the OMERAD and the Academy will be disseminated shortly. In the meantime, please contact the OMERAD for more information by calling 568-2140 or sending an email to omerad@lsuhsc.edu.
PayperPrint has been restored campus-wide.
PayperPrint is offline campus wide. Technicians are working to bring it back online.
The LSUHSC Office of Computer Services provides secure remote access through a VPN (virtual private network) . Last summer, a new VPN client, SSLVPN was rolled out.
On July 29th, users who are still using the old VPN client, SecuRemote, will no longer have access to the Library’s catalog, Innopac. If you have SecuRemote (old client) installed, it must be uninstalled before installing SSLVPN (new client) (directions are available). Please contact your local computer supporter for more information.
Barcode & PIN (WAM) access will be unaffected.
In case you haven’t heard, the proposed LSUHSC teaching hospital is one step closer to being built. The governor’s office officially announced yesterday that it is backing a proposal for a 424 bed facility in downtown New Orleans.
PayPaw services will be shut down again this morning; the system is “experiencing difficulty.” *Edit 9:54 a.m.* And PayPaw is back up.
70 years end on a high note
Monday night at Alex Box Stadium was a wonderful ending to the 70 years of LSU’s old baseball stadium. The Tigers trounced the UC-Irvine Anteaters 21-7, to advance to the NCAA College World Series in Omaha. LSU will play North Carolina in the opening round of the 2008 NCAA College World Series at 6 p.m. Sunday. The game will be televised nationally by ESPN 2.
No pain, no gain
According to NCAA injury surveillance data for men’s baseball from 1998-2004, college baseball has a relatively low rate of injury compared with other NCAA sports, but 25% of injuries are severe and result in 10+ days of time loss from participation. Injuries can include everything from tearing the cartilage in your shoulder to taking a ball in the face. In fact, there’s 130 articles in PubMed on college baseball alone.
A healthy Tiger is a happy Tiger
This article from the Journal of Athletic Training gives an overview of collegiate injuries for 15 sports, along with recommendations for injury prevention.

The fancy TVs spread throughout campus are also a way for you to share your events! For more information, check out their webpage, which includes contact emails depending on your School:
As you may have noticed, the Digital Signage big screen TVs around campus came to life last week. The Library Commons renovation is a featured animation right now.
PayPaw services have required a reboot. The system should be back online momentarily.
