Both the Isché will be closed on Saturday, September 3rd through Monday, September 5th in observance of the Labor Day holiday.
The Dental Library remains closed due to construction work.
Last week the Chancellor’s Excellence award winners were announced and the Libraries’ own Rebecca Bealer was one of the recipients!
Rebecca has worked for the LSUHSC Libraries since 1996 in a variety of rolls. Most importantly for the campus, she was the team lead on rolling out our current off campus management system in 2018. She also is in charge of all the serials/journals for both of our libraries AND is a Mac expert on campus.
The Libraries (and our organization) are very lucky and proud to have her in our ranks
Kathy Kerdolff retired yesterday. She had worked for the LSUHSC Libraries since May 1990. Prior to joining the Library as a Reference Librarian, Kathy had worked with Judith Caruthers, Director of Libraries, on a student internship in 1988 and helped with the plan to move the Libraries from the old Medical School Building and the Medical Education Building into the brand new Resource Center Building.
Kathy was the liaison to the School of Medicine since the program began in May 2005. She was active in state, regional and national library organizations, serving on a variety of committees and all levels and holding elected office at all three levels.
Kathy will continue working with the School of Medicine, Department of Surgery after her retirement and holds an emeritus appointment through that department.
The Libraries will be closed on Monday, July 4th. In addition the Isché Library will be closed on Saturday, July 2nd and Sunday, July 3rd as well. The Dental Library is closed every weekend.
The Library Commons should be available all weekend for any studying needs.
The Isché Library will close at 6pm on Thursday, May 26, 2022 for emergency electrical repairs in the building. While the Library Commons may be open, it will be on emergency lighting only and will not have air conditioning until 10pm.
Sorry for the late notice.
Once again masking will be required while on campus starting on Thursday, May 26, 2022. The requirement is for surgical or KN95 or N95 masks.
From the Interim Chancellor’s email:
To that end, we will require masking in all campus facilities effective Thursday, May 26. 2022. We are requiring a surgical-grade mask that is snugly placed, covering the nose and mouth. KN-95 masks are also acceptable and required for those exposed or recently returning from a previous case of COVID. Of course, the campus clinic can provide further information.
The National Convention of the Medical Library Association is in New Orleans this week; both Libraries will be a bit short-staffed Wednesday, May 4th through Friday, May 6th.
Almost all of our librarians will be attending the conference at the convention center. J. Dale Prince, Library Director, is an elected member of the MLA Board and also serves as treasurer. Jennifer K. Lloyd, Associate Director, is co-chair of the local assistance committee, on the national planning committee and is presenting an immersion session. Rebecca Bealer, Serials/Systems Librarian, and Marlene Bishop, Collection Development Librarian, are both invited speakers and are presenting a joint poster.
The Isché Library will be extending its hours on Monday, May 2nd. Our hours will be:
Monday – Thursday |
7:30am – 10pm |
Friday |
7:30am – 6pm |
Saturday |
9:30am – 6pm |
Sunday |
9:30am – 10pm |
The Libraries will be closed Friday, April 15-17 for the University Easter Holiday. Both the Isché and Dental Libraries will close at 6pm on Thursday, April 14th. Both Libraries will re-open at 8am on Monday, April 18.
The Isché Library will open at 12 noon on Saturday, April 2nd instead of 9:30am. The Library will still close at 6pm.
This change is necessary because Facility Services will be working on the emergency power automatic transfer switch. The entire Resource Center Building will have intermittent complete outages of both regular power and emergency power. All power, safety lighting, elevators and air handling will be affected by these outages.
Message from the Facilities Department:
“On Thursday, March 31st, from 2:00 PM to 9:00 PM, there will be a domestic hot water and heating hot water outage on the Downtown Campus affecting the Resource Center Building, Allied Health/Nursing Building, Lions/LSU Clinics Building, Dr. Mervin L. Trail Clinical Sciences Research Building, Medical Education Building and the Residence Hall Building. During this outage there will be water pressure on the hot water side of faucets but the water will not be hot. In addition, portions of some buildings may become cooler than normal during the outage due to the lack of heating hot water. Facility Services will monitor temperatures throughout the outage. The outage will not affect the hot water supply for any other building. This outage is necessary for the Central Utility Plant FEMA Mitigation Project contractor to repair steam leaks in the Central Plant.”
Another week, another round of bad weather. New Orleans LSUHSC campuses are closing at 3pm today.
Remember Library resources are available from our webpages. Both Libraries plan to reopen tomorrow at 8am.
The Isché Library will close early or be closed over Mardi Gras weekend; it will close at 5pm on Friday, February 25th and Monday, February 28th. Also, the Isché Library will be closed Saturday and Sunday, February 26th and 27th.
Both the Dental and Isché Libraries will be closed on Tuesday, March 1st. And will reopen at their reduced level on Wednesday, March 2nd.
