AAO Basic and Clinical Science Course (BCSC) eBook collection maintenance

The American Academy of Ophthalmology Basic and Clinical Science Course (BCSC) eBook collection is upgrading to a new version effective Monday, September 16th. Maintenance will begin the night before, Sunday, September 15th, starting at 9:30 PM (central time).

The functionality should stay the same, however there will be a few changes:

-The new site will only have the latest Basic and Clinical Science Course (BCSC) titles. The old editions will no longer be available.

-Personalized accounts, including bookmarks, highlights and notes created on the older titles can be accessed under the ‘My activity’ tab and downloaded as an excel file for the user’s reference.

-All books will be presented in chronological order of their publishing date.

If you experience problems accessing the collection, please contact the Collection Development Department.

STAT!Ref updated platform

STAT!Ref ebooks platform is getting a facelift. The new platform will debut on Monday, September 9th. No interruptions in service are anticipated. Read the official announcement from Teton Data Services on the company’s web page.

Our subscription to STAT!Ref comes with over 100 ebooks, including popularly requested titles such as American Academy of Pediatrics Red Book, Davis’ Drug Guide for Nurses, ICD-10 guides, Washington Manual of Medical Therapeutics, Wintrobe’s Hematology, and much more. Our access to BoardVitals online exam review is also through STAT!Ref.

This subscription is coordinated by a group of partner libraries in 3 states, Arkansas, Louisiana, and Oklahoma, allowing participating institutions to share access and cost.

A Virtual Library in a Library!

Isché Library is pleased to announce the addition of the ScienceDirect EBS Collection. Spanning from 2013 to the present, this vast and varied collection encompasses a wide range of disciplines and provides access to over 5000 books, with more being added throughout the subscription period. The entire collection will be available through June of 2018. After that, we will be permanently adding those titles that show the most use.

We are still reviewing all of these titles and will be adding links for any duplicates of our print collection to the catalog, as well as adding catalog listings for the most relevant titles utilized by our patrons. In the meantime, you can access the collection at this link.  Choose Books at the top of the home page, then choose Books and Subscription and complimentary from the two drop down menus above the list of titles.  You can filter by subject on the left side of the screen.

The titles from this collection are also accessible through the AtoZ list.

We will be offering up tidbits and treasures from the collection over the next few weeks as we plumb the depths of the different subject headings within the collection.  Please join us in this adventure and perhaps find some treasures of your own!

AccessMedicine upgrade, new products

We are pleased to announce that our AccessMedicine subscription has been upgraded to an institutional site license with no restrictions on the number of users.  That means no more lock-outs for AccessMedicine.  Many thanks are owed to the School of Medicine for contributing funds to support this upgrade.  We couldn’t have done it without you!

AccessMedicine is a dynamic resource that includes online textbooks, case studies, videos, drug monographs, USMLE review questions, diagnostic tools, and more.  The online book collection is very popular and it includes top titles such as Harrison’s Principles of Internal Medicine, Dr. Michael Levitzky’s Pulmonary Physiology, Dr. Patricia Molina’s Endocrine Physiology, and the Current Diagnosis & Treatment series, just to name a few!

As a bonus, we can now offer expanded access to the Custom Curriculum component of this resource.  Instructors can register their MyAccess profiles for the added capability of developing and managing interactive learning modules where they can assign readings, give quizzes, and track students’ progress.  See the Custom Curriculum web page for more information or contact the School of Medicine Librarian Liaison, Kathy Kerdolff, if you have any other questions.

Two new collections have been added to our arsenal as well:

AccessMedicine’s HemOnc Collection, which provides online access to top titles in Hematology and Oncology, and the Case Files Collection, which adds over 1,000 case files to our subscription.

We have also renewed AccessEmergency Medicine at a level of 3 concurrent users, and thanks to continued funding from the Department of Surgery, we are able to maintain our AccessSurgery subscription at a level of 10 concurrent users.  The Department of Surgery has been funding extra users on that subscription since 2008!  We couldn’t have done it without you either! To maximize the usefulness of those limited users, please remember to sign out when you are finished using those databases.
