UPDATE: Logging in using an email or via OpenAthens at publishers’ sites is working again.
Wednesday, December 6, 2023: Logging in using your LSUHSC-NO email address to use Library resources is currently unavailable. The OpenAthens service is experiencing an outage, and that is preventing us from using that option both through our EZproxy service and directly at publisher’s websites.
Until this problem is resolved, there is an alternate way to log into Library resources. When you see this screen, click on the green bar:
Then, enter your username (without the @lsuhsc.edu), and your current password in the two boxes:
We will update when we have more information about this problem, but if you need assistance please contact us.
The following Springer Publishing journals will be unavailable on December 5, 2023, from 8am until noon for system maintenance:
Journal of Doctoral Nursing Practice
Journal of Nursing Measurement
Journal of Perinatal Education
Neonatal Network
If you need assistance with this or any other Library resources, please contact us.

UPDATE: The OpenAthens issue has been resolved, so logging in with emails via EZproxy and directly at publisher sites is working again.
Original Post: There are problems with the OpenAthens service that is preventing using an email to log into Library resources both through EZproxy and directly at publishers’ sites.
They are working on the problem as it is affecting all users, so until that time when you land on the EZproxy login page, expand the green box and enter your username (without the @lsuhsc.edu part) and your current network password:
Please remember barcodes are no longer accepted.
We will update when we have more information, but if you need assistance to get into any Library resources, please contact us.
INNOPAC, the Library Catalog, will be unavailable for a couple of hours starting at 11pm on Tuesday, September 19, 2023. The outage is necessary for a system update.
The majority of Library resources will still be available during this time.
We are happy to report that through the great generosity of Quintessence Publishing we are able to provide easier access to their journals.
Now, instead of having to log in with a password, you can get to the full text of Quintessence journals by logging in via EZproxy when prompted. The records in our online catalog for the affected journals are updated to reflect this change, and you can get to those journals by clicking on the links on this page.
There are some issues with the links on the E-Books & E-Journals A to Z List, but we will have these updated to use the new access method as soon as we can.
This new access method is accompanied by a revamp of many of the Quintessence journal sites. There are a couple of things to look out for when trying to access the full text of articles on these new pages.
First, to get the PDF of an article, click the “Full Text” link underneath the article’s title to the left, and ignore the greyed out PDF link to the right:
Second, to browse through the issues of a title, scroll down when on the journal’s main page:
We hope this makes accessing content from the Quintessence journals easier. We would also like to thank Quintessence Publishing for their generosity in providing complimentary access to many of the journals we receive from them.
If you need help with this or any other Library resources, please contact us.
With the start of the new semester and the welcoming of new and returning students, we’d like to share a tip that will hopefully make getting your daily work done much easier. When on campus, please make sure to choose LSUHSC-Secure as the WiFi network.
If you somehow connect to Eduroam, LSUHSC-Visitor, or any of the other available networks, you will not be able to access Library resources easily nor print to the PayPaw system. You can also ensure you do not connect to any of these networks by unchecking “Connect automatically” if it is selected.
For those using Macs, you can set LSUHSC-Secure as your preferred network.
For those who are new to campus or are returning from summer break, the 5th Floor is now home to a major project to remove over 30,000 bound volumes and shift the entirety of the remaining 90,000+ volumes to make room for a new IT data center. As our previous project diaries show, this continues to be an involved, chaotic, and, at times, very loud undertaking. There is an illustration at the top of the stairs on the 5th Floor showing what areas are affected and describing more about this project.
The past few days, though, have been ones to make magicians jealous with the quick disappearance of thousands of volumes.
Some may have been in awe of The Stack on the 5th Floor:
By Tuesday morning, August 8, The Stack was no more:
However, with an additional 7,000 or so volumes still needing removal, The New Stack will arise in its place.
If you have any questions about this project or need assistance with any Library resources, please contact us.
UPDATE: Please see our post from September 15, 2023, regarding resolution of this issue
Quintessence Publishing recently updated their website, and we are having problems logging into the online content for journals on the new site. Most links from the records in the catalog go to the old site, where the logins work correctly. However, if you are redirected to the new site, please note you are unable to log in to get articles.
We are working with our subscription agent to resolve the issue and will update when we know more.
Please let us know if you need help with this or any other Library resources.
As the project to make room for the IT Data Center continues, please be aware that the events affecting a certain kingdom have now spread to the 5th Floor of the Library.
Gloom Hands were encountered this week near a stack of journals to be removed:
As soon as this menace was handled, just around the corner another threat was faced:
Your intrepid Library staff dispatched of these nuisances, but please be careful as you go about the floor.
Room continues to be made where the shifting of the journals progresses:
Please remember that as this project continues, there will be additional noise and a lot of commotion throughout the 5th Floor during weekdays.
If you have any questions about this or need assistance with any Library resources, contact us.
The project to make room for IT’s data center is progressing well. The shifting of journals remaining has reached the R titles, with the move starting from the end of the alphabet.
The process to remove the 30,000+ print volumes is also moving along, with volumes removed into the G titles, also working backwards.
If you are anywhere between Clinical Proceedings and Journal of Toxicology, you will likely see where volumes are being stowed for their eventual removal:
If you need assistance or have any questions about this project, please contact us.
The project to shift the journal collection and clear space for the relocation of IT’s data center is progressing to where you can now see tangible evidence of the effort throughout the floor.
As we remove journals and tighten up existing space, we’re creating empty shelves to accommodate the space that will be lost:
However, since over 30,000 bound volumes are being removed, you may see some odd places where these journals are being stored as they await the next step in this project:
If you need assistance locating a journal or help with any Library resources, please contact us.
INNOPAC, the Library Catalog, will be unavailable for a couple of hours starting at 11pm on Wednesday, July 12, 2023. The outage is necessary for a system update.
The majority of Library resources will still be available during this time.
The project to make room for the relocation of the IT Data Center is picking up each day. Shifting of the titles and volumes to be kept has begun in earnest:
Since 28 rows of shelving will be lost, we have a combination of removing titles and tightening up the remaining volumes. The stacks of what will eventually be over 30,000 removed bound volumes of journals grows each day:
As Library staff works through shifting journals and pulling the titles to be removed, there will be an increase in noise and activity on the floor.
If you have any questions about this or any other Library topics, please contact us.

The project to remove over 30,000 bound volumes and shift the entire print journal collection to make room for an IT data center is well underway. If you find yourself on that floor, it is reminiscent of a sticky note factory:
Journals that will be removed from the collection are also starting to populate the staging areas on the Prieur side of the floor:
As we make our way through the entire collection, removing and shifting journals, there will be an increase of noise on the usual quiet study floor.
