Happy Anniversary, Blog!

Today (March 29th) the Libraries’ blog (LSUHSC-NO Libraries News is the formal name) will celebrate it’s 3rd anniversary. This post will be the 736th since we started with 17 authors, 48 categories, and 50 tags. The 18 authors is the most significant number to me; the entire Library Staff (both at the Isché & Dental Libraries) is only 22 people. Thanks to everyone who has taken the time to make the blog a success.

As for our readers, is there a topic we’ve been missing? Or something you’d like to see more of? Please don’t hesitate to let us know. On to year 4!

And in case you were wondering, the traditional gift is leather and the modern gift is crystal. The leather would probably be more practical in the Library; perhaps a donated volume?

More Commotion @ Ische

On Monday, March 29th the old furniture from behind the Isché Circulation Desk will be removed beginning at 8 a.m. The old circulation desk will be broken down on Monday afternoon and the new desk will be set up Tuesday morning. In preparation for all these changes, reserve materials will be removed from behind the desk on Friday. We apologize for any inconvenience to our patrons.

High Fructose Corn Syrup Bad

Good News for NOLA Patients

The Commonwealth Fund released a report mid-January on a 2009 Survey of Clinic Patients in New Orleans. “Coming Out of Crisis: Patient Experiences in Primary Care in New Orleans, Four Years Post-KatrinaÔÇöFindings from The Commonwealth Fund 2009 Survey of Clinic Patients in New Orleans” makes for interesting reading and is only 35 pages long. A quick quote that demonstrates the tone of the report, “The findings are encouraging: most patients reported having easy access to care, helpful communication with clinicians, good management of their chronic illnesses, and preventive care. When they needed care, costs did not deter them from seeking it.”

Moodle Scheduled Downtime

Moodle will be down on campus from 11 p.m. this evening (Friday, Feb. 26th) until approximately mid-morning tomorrow (Saturday, Feb. 27th) for server maintenance. Please plan your use accordingly.

Library Commons Closure

The Library Commons will be closed from midnight to 8 a.m. on Saturday, February 27th to accomodate electrical work in the building. Please plan your studying accordingly.

TVs in the Library Commons

The television sets in the Library Commons are available for use with a laptop. Just stop by the Circulation Desk to checkout the cables that are needed to make it work. Use of the TVs & the cables is on a “first come – first served” basis. Enjoy!

Winter Olympics & Exp Physiol

New Orleans was so busy with the Saints in the Superbowl and then Carnival that many missed that the Winter Olympics have started again. Experimental Physiology has issued a special themed issue (v95 n3 March 2010) in commemoration of the athletic event. The issue explores “the biological and environmental challenges elite winter athletes must overcome to win gold.”

Off campus access will require a Library barcode & PIN.
