The Dental Library will be open for regular hours until Tuesday, Dec. 22nd when it will close at 5 pm. Hours for Wednesday, Dec. 23rd will be 8 am until 5 pm. The Dental Library will be closed from Thursday, Dec. 24th until Saturday, Jan. 2nd. The Library will reopen at 1:30 pm on Sunday, Jan.3rd.
The Isché Library will begin it’s special hours on Sunday, December 20th. The Library will be open for an abbreviated schedule through December 23rd. And will be closed from December 24th through January 3rd.
Abbreviated schedule is as follows:

According to a new report released by the CDC, the average life expectancy of Americans increased in 2007 to 77.9 from 77.7 years in 2006. The five leading causes of death in 2007 were “heart disease, cancer, stroke, chronic lower respiratory diseases, and accidents. These accounted for over 64 percent of all deaths in the United States.”

The CDC analyzed data from the National Electronic Injury Surveillance System All Injury Program (NEISS-AIP) and found that about 17,465 persons were treated in emergency rooms for non fatal injuries from 2000 – 2003. (November 1 to January 31)
Most of the injuries involved falling off ladders while hanging holiday decorations. This might be the perfect statistic to use when you are asked to put up outside lights!
If you insist on keeping with the spirit of the holidays follow ladder safety rules listed in the MMWR Dec 10 2004 Vol.53(48) 1127-1129.

Last month, HealthDay published an article titled “Why Watching TV Sports Increases Heart Attacks.” The study was presented at the American Heart Association annual meeting in Orlando.
Every Saints fan in New Orleans can relate to that article today.
December 1st is World AIDS Day. 2009 is the 21st observance of this day. AIDS cases in Louisiana have increased with New Orleans ranking 2nd & Baton Rouge ranking 3rd according to a recent WWL-TV report.
The Louisiana HIV/AIDS Program has a “Statewide Coordinated Need & HIV Comprehensive Plan” (pdf) for 2009 which was issued in early November.

The Dental Library closed at 5 p.m. today (Wednesday, Nov. 25th) and the Isché Library closed at 8 p.m. for the Thanksgiving Holiday. Both libraries will reopen on Sunday. The Isché Library will open at 12 noon and the Dental Library will open at 1:30 p.m. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving.
