New Intercom System @ the Isché Library

The old Medical School Library at 1542 Tulane had a high-end paging system installed in the mid 1960s which was donated by the School of Medicine Class of 1963. That system was mover to the Resource Center Building in the summer of 1989 and reinstalled.

For the last year or so, that system has been failing. As of yesterday, a brand new intercom system was installed which will make the Library safer in emergencies and make it clearer to our users when we’re closing. Thank you to Campus Facilities Department for replacing our antique equipment with some actually from this century!

LibKey retracted article alerts expanded

July 9, 2025: If you use Library databases to get articles or have installed the LibKey Nomad browser extension to make getting those articles very easy, you already know how LibKey helps to identify retracted articles. Check out our post from December 2021 for more information about the retracted articles alerts.

LibKey now brings those retracted article alerts to warn you of papers that cite retracted works in the article you’re linking to:

Screenshot of notice about retracted citations for an article

You can still continue to the original article by clicking “Download PDF” or “Article Link.” If you click on the links next to the retracted citations, you will see the summary of why that article was retracted.

These same alerts will display if you choose to use the LibKey.io product to look up articles using DOIs or PMIDs. You can quickly get to articles we have access to by going to https://libkey.io/libraries/935.

If you need help with this or any other Library products, contact us.

2024 NIH Public Access Policy Presentation

The Libraries presented updated information about the 2024 NIH Public Access Policy on July 2, 2025. It included an explanation of the new requirements for NIH grant awardees and how they can show compliance for new publications arising from their grant funding. The recording is available to view here and the slides are available to review. There is also information available on the Libraries’ Resource Guide.

Librarians are available to help with any questions about complying with the new NIH policy when you’re ready to publish your findings. Also, we have agreements with a number of publishers to waive any fees if you want to publish an open access article. Our Open Access and Fee Waiver Agreements page has more information about these opportunities.
