Faculty Publications Spotlight for June

A new selection of articles has been added to the Faculty Publications display in the Ische Library. These eight articles, as well as all of the articles in our Faculty Publications database, are authored by at least one member of our research community here at LSUHSC-New Orleans. Each month the Library is proud to present copies of eight of these publications in a rotating display of 16. They can be viewed in the Reference area, on the wall between the main entrance and the Library elevator, on the third floor of the Resource Center Building.

Libraries hosting NLM exhibit “From DNA to Beer”

The LSUHSC-NO Libraries are happy to host the National Library of Medicine’s traveling exhibit “From DNA to Beer: Harnessing Nature in Medicine and Industry.” Come explore the history of biotechnology, and peruse our selection of related books and articles.  The exhibit will be available at the Isché Library on the third floor of the Resource Center from May 30th-June 17th, and then at the Dental Library on the third floor of the Administration Building from June 20th-July 8th.

Supplemental Materials Display

MICROBES—tiny organisms too small to be seen with the naked eye—have altered human history. Life forms such as bacteria, yeasts, and molds can cause sickness or restore health, and help produce foods and beverages.

Scientists, in partnership with industry, have developed techniques to harness the powers of these microbes. In recent years, headline-grabbing technologies have used genetically modified bacteria to manufacture new medicines.

A glimpse into the past reveals a history of human enterprise that has adapted these tiny organisms for health and profit. This exhibition explores some of the processes, problems, and potential inherent in technologies that use life.

Library Commons – Cleaning (5/23-24)

The Library Commons at the Isché Library is currently closed for carpet cleaning. It should be reopen later this evening (after 6pm). Tomorrow the tiled areas will be cleaned so the area will be closed sporadically.

New Display!

There is a new display that highlights the Library’s Digital Collections!

The display gives a preview to all of the collections that are available online, complete with links to the sources. Please note that along with the rest of Louisiana Digital Libraries, our collection will be moving to a new platform this summer. New Printer in the Ische Library

The Isché Library has a new printer in the 3rd floor reference area, it prints only in black and white at a cost of 10¢ single sided and 14¢ double sided using only your Pay Paw card. Our new 4th floor printer does color and black and white printing, color is 25¢ a copy.

Hard to believe it’s been 9 years since our little blog project started. Thanks for reading and in case you were wondering the traditional gifts for a 9th anniversary are pottery, willow or leather.

3D Printing at Dental Library on Wednesdays and Fridays Only

The Dental Library has now designated two weekdays for 3D printing jobs: Wednesday and Friday.

We understand that the noise generated by the 3D printer can be distracting. At the same time, we want this technology to be openly available and conveniently usable for all students and faculty. As a compromise, we will restrict 3D printing to Wednesdays and Fridays so everyone will be guaranteed quality time in the library.

It should be noted that we may not always have 3D print projects going on the designated days; likewise, we may have to start a priority project on an off day. So please bear with us as we try to provide an accessible educational space for everyone to study, learn, and discover.

Easter Hours

Easter Eggs

Both the Dental and Isché Libraries will close early on Thursday, March 24th and remain closed Friday, March 25th through Sunday, March 27th. The Dental Library will close at 5 pm and the Isché Library will close at 8 pm.

Both Libraries will reopen on Monday, March 28th at 8 am.

Ische Library – Reference Hours Change

The Isché Library Reference Librarians will be available for patron assistance from 8 am to 5 pm, Monday through Friday only, starting on Monday, March 28th. With the current staffing level in that area, we are no longer able to cover the Reference Desk until 8 pm.

Campus Closure 3/11/16

The LSUHSC campuses are closed today, Friday, March 11, 2016 due to the wind & rain. Only essential personnel should be on campus.

The Isché Library will reopen on Saturday, March 12th at 9:30 am. The Dental Library will reopen on Sunday, March 13th at 11 am.
