America’s Historical Newspapers
This collection provides searchable American newspapers to enable users to explore America’s past. Available here: African American Newspapers, 1827-1998 and selected Louisiana historical newspapers including the New Orleans Times-Picayune (1837-1936). (On campus only at this time.)

Both resources are provided through a consortial agreement with LOUIS, the Louisiana Library Network

Ische Computer Lab Closed on 11/11

The Isché Library Computer Lab will be unavailable for general use on Wednesday, November 11th from 8 am to 5 pm. The computers outside of the lab will be available; please check out a key from the circulation desk to use them.

Emergency Notification Test

According to an email sent out to all LSUHSC New Orleans Faculty, Staff, and Students the campus Emergency Notification System will be tested on Thursday, November 5th at 11:30 a.m. This test will include the campus-wide Digital Signage as well as the text alerting system.

Google Searches the US Government

Someone mentioned on twitter this morning how much they loved the Google Uncle Sam search. Intrigued I did a little investigating. Turns out the advanced search feature has been around for at least a decade. The advantage is that it searches .gov and .mil domains which may only be used by the US government. usgov google search

PubMed

*Edit* PubMed seems to be working again, although very slowly. (edited 09-11-04 @ 10:28 am)

Due to a problem in the NLM computer room, PubMed is currently down. Hopefully the issue will be resolved quickly.

LSUHSC New Orleans users still have access to Medline via EBSCOhost or Ovid.

Closing @ 10:30 pm Wed & Thurs

The Isché Library will close at 10:30 pm on Wednesday & Thursday (Nov. 4th & 5th). The Library Commons will also be closed during this time period (from 10:30 pm to 6:30 am). Additionally, the Library Commons will be closed on Friday, Nov. 6th from 10:30 pm to 6:30 am Saturday, Nov. 7th. The closure is to accomodate overnight facilities work.

SAS on Board

SAS is now available on the three PCs in the Library Commons area. This resource is being supplied by the LSUHSC School of Public Health but any LSUHSC user may be access it.

Halloween

skullbook Just a friendly reminder that the Libraries will be open this weekend. The Isché Library will be open from 9:30-6 on Saturday & from 12-12 on Sunday. The Dental Library is open from 1:30-10 on Sunday.

Louisiana Go Local

Louisiana Go Local officially launched on Wednesday, October 28, 2009! This online service lists thousands of services across the state. Users can find doctors, hospitals, clinics, nursing homes, support groups, diabetes care, cancer services, home health care, weight management services, and much more.

Governor Bobby Jindal proclaimed October 28, 2009 Go Local Day in Louisiana to recognize the launch of the site. The proclamation notes that ÔÇ£knowing how to locate health services in the community can aid in the prevention of disease and maintenance of a healthy lifestyle.ÔÇØ

Louisiana Go Local is produced by Baton Rouge GeneralÔÇÖs Health Sciences Library in collaboration with the LSU School of Library and Information Science, and the National Library of Medicine, part of the National Institutes of Health. The Isché Library Computer Lab will be closed tonight (starting at 5 p.m.) so that outside contractors can clean the ducts for the HV/AC system. Computers outside the lab will still be available.
