Pay Paw Machine Working Again

The Pay Paw Value Transfer Station (VTS) located on the 3rd Floor of the John P. Isch?® Library is finally back in business.

Students, Faculty and Staff may resume depositing money onto their Pay Paw Cards or purchasing a guest card as necessary.

F as in Fat

The Trust for America’s Health has released a new report, F as in Fat: How Obesity Threatens America’s Future 2011 which finds that adult obesity is increasing across the Nation. Louisiana is the 5th most obese state with 31.6% of its adult population being obese; we are one of the 16 states with an obesity rate above 30%.

Independence Day Hours

The John P. Isch?® Library will close Sunday, July 3rd and Monday, July 4th in observation of Independce Day, a scheduled University Holiday. The Dental Library will also be closed.

The Library will reopen on Tuesday July, 5th at 8am for standard hours of operations.

PayPaw Bookstore Min.

The PayPaw Machine in the John P. Isch?® Library is currently out of order. Until the repairs are complete the LSUHSC bookstore will allow PayPaw users to add less than the usually required $20 minimum.

FDA’s Scoop on Silicone

Today the FDA highlighted various resources regarding Breast Implants on their website.

The information is available to encourage continuous education for those who have already undergone forms of breast augmentation, in addition to providing authoritative information for those considering Breast Implants.

E-Journals List Outage

The Electronic Journals List will be unavailable Tuesday June 21st, from 7pm until 9pm. Links to journals from the Library’s catalog will still work during this outage.

PayPaw VTS @ Ische

The Pay Paw VTS unit in the Isché Library has been down since the power outage on Saturday. We have no estimate for it’s repair.

Planned Power Outage in the RCB

Maintenance will require that the power will be out in the Resource Center Building on Saturday, June 18th from 6 am to 9 am. The Library Commons will be closed during this time. The Isch?® Library plans to open for itÔÇÖs normal hours from 9:30 am to 6 pm.

Emergency Med oral boards help

Academic life in Emergency Medicine blog linked to a resource out of University of Maryland that EM residents will find useful.

The Emergency Medicine Oral Boards Training Video Series covers general principles of the exam, along with 2 case studies and medical pearls. These 6-10 minute movies should play on any computer browser.

LSUHSC-NO Authors Highlighted

The Isch?® Library has been maintaining a monthly display that highlights recent articles by LSUHSC-New Orleans faculty. This display is being regularly updated with materials that have been gathered into the Faculty Publications Database. The Database is maintained by the Isch?® Library as a prominent resource.

The newly added articles are located in the Isch?® Library’s Reference area (near the elevator) on the third floor of the Resource Center Building.

About the Isch?® Library’s Faculty Publications Database:

The Faculty Publications Database includes citations to papers, editorials, letters to the editor, meeting abstracts, books, and book chapters authored by at least one member of the LSUHSC-New Orleans faculty, 1998 ÔÇô present. With the reveal of the new food plate from the USDA, nutrition has been in the news lately. An article on NPR’s Morning Edition recently discussed “Washington’s long tradition of trying to guide the American diet”. From turn of the century agricultural expeditions to “the Poison Squad”, a group of young volunteers who explored the effects of contaminated food in the basement of the Department of Agriculture, this report chronicles the relationship of government and nutrition.

If you’re in DC this year, a new exhibit, “What’s cooking, Uncle Sam? The Government’s Effect on the American Diet” at the National Archives details America’s food history.

Dynamed serial number expired?

Just a reminder that Dynamed serial numbers have a shelf life of one year. If you downloaded Dynamed to your smartphone about a year ago, it may be time to renew your serial number. (The app will tell you when your serial number has expired.)

Renewing is simple. Just email reference@lsuhsc.edu or call 504-568-6100 to request a new serial number and then enter it into the app on your phone.
