New EBooks Available

Due to current restrictions and recommendations, we are doing our best to add online access to our print books wherever possible.  In some instances we have acquired the newer editions, as older editions were not available or just too out of date.

Recently added titles:

Unfortunately, many publishers do not sell their online books to institutions and libraries, preferring students and instructors coordinate access directly through them. Some of those ebooks are available for sale through ebook sellers such as RedShelf and VitalSource, both of which are offering special access during the COVID-19 outbreak.

Please let us know if there is something in particular that you need us to try to acquire, and we will research the availability for institutional access.  More information and contact information can be found here: https://www.lsuhsc.edu/library/services/colldev.aspx.

Citrix and Library resources

If you are attempting to use any Library resources such as ebooks, journals, or databases, and have gone in through Citrix, you may wonder why you are are being asked to pay or you’re seeing something saying you need a subscription.

Even though you are in Citrix, you may still have to prove to publishers that you have permission to access the resources. Unfortunately, Citrix doesn’t always send that information along, so it’s important you use a link from the Library’s site or create one in order to guarantee you can get to what you should.

One key thing to look for is whether the link you’re following has “ezproxy.lsuhsc.edu” anywhere. If it does, then you’re good to go! If it does not, you may not be able to get to the resource you need. You can fix this, however, by running the link to the resource you need through our magical off campus link maker available here: https://libguides.lsuhsc.edu/openathens/offcampuslink. Then follow these instructions:

Questions about COVID-19 now being answered by Louisiana 211 statewide network

Louisiana’s statewide 211 network is now answering calls about COVID-19, also known as the coronavirus. This network is best designed and staffed to handle the large volume of calls from Louisiana residents who are concerned and who have questions about the rapidly-spreading virus.

Anyone looking for information about the COVID-19 outbreak can simply dial 211 or text the keyword LACOVID to 898-211 for the most current information about the outbreak as it becomes available.

More information is available on the Louisiana Department of Health website.

Pay Paw Services Down 8/6-7/19

Pay Paw services are currently down for maintenance. The maintenance and outage will continue for the next two days.

This temporary Pay Paw outage means that services like printing and copying will be unavailable, along with the ability to add money or pay using your Pay Paw account.

ILLiad Scheduled downtime

ILLiad, the Library’s ILL service, will be down for scheduled maintenance tonight from 8pm-11pm. We apologize for the inconvenience.

Chrome available in Citrix

An update to the Citrix has added Chrome as an alternate browser. You will see a shortcut to it on your Citrix desktop as well as in the Windows start menu:

Instructions about installing and using Citrix can be found from the IT Help Desk. One thing to remember, though, is that if you’re using an Apple computer, Citrix works best through Chrome.

Accessing resources during system outage

INNOPAC, our library system, will not be available starting at 7am on Tuesday, May 21st, and it’s estimated it could be out for up to four hours. This outage means that you will not be able to look up anything through the Library’s online catalog, and the link resolver in all databases will not work as well. There are, however, other options to find the resources you need during this time.

The Discovery/EDS Health search will still function and can help you locate a specific journal, book, or article:

There are many options presented that will still work, but some do rely on the system in order to work. As a result, any options to check the Library’s catalog or to use the WebBridge Link Resolver will not be available. However, particularly in the case of articles, there are many other options that can get you to what you need:

Another option to find a particular ebook or journal is the E-Journals & E-Books A to Z List.

If you need to access any resource when off-campus, you will need to use your LSUHSC-NO e-mail and password through OpenAthens; you will not be able to log in using your Library barcode and PIN while the system is unavailable:

Even though INNOPAC, the Library’s catalog, will not be available, Library staff will have other ways to get to journals and resources during this downtime, so please contact us if you need help.

HTTP disabled on Library Catalog

HTTP access has been disabled on the Libraries’ catalog to better ensure its security. If you type the catalog’s address, innopac.lsuhsc.edu into most browsers, it should default to using HTTPS but if it doesn’t or if you follow an older link that hasn’t been updated, the following message:

Switch to HTTPS if you see this message

From RefWorks/ProQuest:

RefWorks will be offline

We want to make you aware that on Wednesday February 13th at 9:00pm (CST) there will be scheduled maintenance on RefWorks for approximately 1 hour to address an issue preventing some users from creating RefWorks accounts. During this window new and legacy RefWorks will be offline. Write-n-Cite will be available offline, but users will not be able to sync their references with RefWorks.

At the end of the maintenance, all existing references will be available.

We appreciate your patience and understanding.

Maintenance Start: Wednesday February 13th at 9:00pm (CST)
Maintenance Completion: Wednesday February 13th at 10:00pm (CST)

So, if you were planning to do some research tonight, schedule a little break and maybe do a little last minute Valentine’s Day shopping for your significant other. Or for yourself.

ProQuest/RefWorks Maintenance This Weekend

Attention Weekend Research Warriors! ProQuest will be taking down their site for product maintenance this weekend. This will affect our access of their databases Saturday night beginning at 9pm until Sunday morning at about 5am. Of course these times may vary slightly as with any database maintenance. Hopefully the upgrades will run smoothly and we will be up and running for our Sunday warriors.

The notice from ProQuest:

To maintain the currency and security of ProQuest products, we are performing maintenance on many ProQuest products beginning on January 19, 2019.

During the maintenance window, most ProQuest products will be temporarily unavailable, including RefWorks.
