Welcome to our new librarian!

The LSUHSC-NO Libraries would like to welcome our newest librarian, Andrew Olinik, MLIS!

Andrew Olinik, MLIS, has joined the LSUHSC-NO libraries as the Metadata and Digital Projects Librarian. Andrew most recently worked with Northshore Technical Community College as their Electronic Resources Librarian. While at Northshore, Andrew was the Systems Administrator for all campuses where he lead cataloging of material, management of electronic resources, compilation of statistics on database use, and trialing of new electronic resources from vendors and publishers. He also achieved a level 1 certification in the Medical Library Association Consumer Health Information Specialization. Andrew’s previous work, education, and professional development includes special interest in archives, digital projects, and managerial experience.

Andrew is originally from Pennsylvania, just outside Philadelphia and is an avid sports fan. He is a member of the American Library Association (ALA) and the Society of American Baseball Researchers (SABR). In his spare time, Andrew enjoys researching baseball history and sports analytics.”

Unmasking Brain Injury moves to the Dental Campus

The Unmasking Brain Injury exhibit from the Brain Injury Association of Louisiana from the Isché Library to the Dental Library. This exhibit of masks made by brain injured individuals promotes awareness of the prevalence of brain injury and gives survivors a voice.

It will be on view at the Dental Library October 23rd through November 7th. It was previously on view at the Isché Library from September 21st through October 21st.

Labor Day Hours

Both the Isché and Dental Libraries will be closed on Sunday and Monday, September 1st and 2nd for the Labor Day Holiday.

The Isché Library will be open Friday night until 8pm and on Saturday from 9:30am to 6pm for regular hours.

Both Libraries will reopen for the regular hours on Tuesday morning.

Pick Your Poison (NLM Exhibit) Moves to the Dental Library

The LSUHSC Libraries are happy to present a National Library of Medicine Traveling Exhibit:

Pick Your Poison: Intoxicating Pleasures & Medical Prescriptions has moved to the Dental Library from August 5th through the 23rd.

It was previously at the Isché Library from July 16th through August 2nd.

A new selection of articles have been added to the Faculty Publications display in the Ische Library. These eight articles, as well as all of the articles in our Faculty Publications database, are authored by at least one member of our research community here at LSUHSC-New Orleans. Regular Hours Return

Summer Hours ends today at the Isché Library. The Main Library is open until 12 midnight Sunday through Thursday and until 8 pm on Fridays. Opening remains at 7:30 am Monday through Friday.

Summer Hours end tomorrow at the Dental Library. The Dental Library will reopen on Sundays, starting August 4th and will be open until 8 pm Sunday through Thursday.

Independence Day Hours

 

*Update* Due to a water outage. The Downtown Library will close at 5:30pm on Wednesday.

 

The Libraries will both be closed on Thursday, July 4th. Additionally the Isché Library will close at 6pm on Wednesday, July 3rd.

Both Libraries will be open for Summer Hours on July 5th.

Easter Hours

The Libraries will be closed  from Friday, April 19th through Sunday, April 21st for the Easter Holiday. In addition, the Dental Library will close at 5pm on Thursday, April 18th and the Ische Library will close at 6pm that day. Both Libraries will reopen with regular hours, Monday, April 22nd.

LSUHSC-New Orleans Launches New Graphic Medicine Collection

Comics aren’t just for teens! Graphic medicine explores healthcare and medicine while using the comic format as a medium for learning.

Graphic novels can be helpful tools for practitioners and patients to further the discussion about healthcare in the United States.  These books are in fact tools that help bridge the health literacy gap.

To highlight this genre, we have a variety of titles available for check out that explore Alzheimer ’s disease, disabilities, abuse, and mental disorders.

So, come by and check out our new books on the 3rd Floor!

Mardi Gras Hours

Rex 2012 on Napoleon Avenue

The Libraries will have reduced hours Carnival Weekend and will be closed on Mardi Gras.

Both the Isché and Dental Libraries will close at 5pm on Friday, March 1st.

The Isché Library will be open from 9:30am to 6pm (regular hours) on Saturday, March 2nd; it will be open the same hours on Sunday, March 3rd. The Dental Library will be open its regular hours of 11:30am to 8pm on Sunday, March 3rd.

Both Libraries will close at 5pm on Monday, March 4th with the Isché Library opening at 7:30am and the Dental Library at 8am. Both Libraries will be closed on Tuesday, March 5th.

The Isché Library will return to normal hours on Wednesday, March 6th. But the Dental Library will continue to close at 5pm for the rest of the week.

Libraries Closed for MLK, Jr Day

Both the Isché and Dental Libraries will be closed on Monday, January 21st in honor of the Martin Luther King, Jr Holiday. The Libraries will be open regular hours on the Sunday before and the Tuesday after.

But still on a Winter Break schedule, the Isché Library is open from 7:30am to 8pm on Wednesday, January 2nd and Thursday, January 3rd and then from 7:30am to 6pm on Friday, January 4th.

The Dental Library is open from 8am to 5pm on Wednesday, January 2nd through Friday, January 4th.

Both Libraries resume their regular hours over the weekend.

Libraries are Closed

The Libraries are closed for Winter Break. All online resources are available and the Library Commons, downtown, is available as long as the building is open.
