Both Libraries are closing at 2:30pm today because of the threat of tornadoes. All other departments on campus are closing as well. Both Libraries plan to open tomorrow at their regular times.
A new selection of articles have been added to the Faculty Publications display in the Ische Library. These eight articles, as well as all of the articles in our Faculty Publications database, are authored by at least one member of our research community here at LSUHSC-New Orleans. Each month the Library is proud to present copies of eight of these publications in a rotating display of 16. With the currently changes, we’ve decided to post the publications digitally. Check out the display below:
Publications cited in the Faculty Publications database are harvested weekly from a variety of sources, such as PubMed, SCOPUS, and CINAHL, to name a few. In addition to articles they include books, book chapters, papers, editorials, letters to the editor, and meeting abstracts, all authored by at least one member of the LSUHSC-NO community. The database is currently maintained by Metadata & Digital Projects Librarian Andrew Olinik.
A PDF of a bibliography of this month’s addition will be available here. If you have an article you would like us to highlight or if you have any questions regarding the display or the database, you can contact our Librarians at reference@lsuhsc.edu.
From 7am to 12pm on Saturday, November 5th, there will be tests of the emergency power system that will result in 5-10 second power outages in the Library building.
These are planned outages to the campus power as they test the new East Campus Standby Power Plant.
Please be aware that they will be happening, as they may result in minor disruptions, but do not be alarmed.

Last week the Chancellor’s Excellence award winners were announced and the Libraries’ own Rebecca Bealer was one of the recipients!
Rebecca has worked for the LSUHSC Libraries since 1996 in a variety of rolls. Most importantly for the campus, she was the team lead on rolling out our current off campus management system in 2018. She also is in charge of all the serials/journals for both of our libraries AND is a Mac expert on campus.
The Libraries (and our organization) are very lucky and proud to have her in our ranks
Kathy Kerdolff retired yesterday. She had worked for the LSUHSC Libraries since May 1990. Prior to joining the Library as a Reference Librarian, Kathy had worked with Judith Caruthers, Director of Libraries, on a student internship in 1988 and helped with the plan to move the Libraries from the old Medical School Building and the Medical Education Building into the brand new Resource Center Building.
Kathy was the liaison to the School of Medicine since the program began in May 2005. She was active in state, regional and national library organizations, serving on a variety of committees and all levels and holding elected office at all three levels.
Kathy will continue working with the School of Medicine, Department of Surgery after her retirement and holds an emeritus appointment through that department.

A special thank you to Kathy Kerdolff for doing an amazing job curating the most recent publications from Faculty, Residents, and Students to be displayed each month for so many years.
Once again masking will be required while on campus starting on Thursday, May 26, 2022. The requirement is for surgical or KN95 or N95 masks.
From the Interim Chancellor’s email:
To that end, we will require masking in all campus facilities effective Thursday, May 26. 2022. We are requiring a surgical-grade mask that is snugly placed, covering the nose and mouth. KN-95 masks are also acceptable and required for those exposed or recently returning from a previous case of COVID. Of course, the campus clinic can provide further information.
