Ische Library – Winter Break Hours

The Isché Library will begin Winter Break Hours tomorrow, Friday, December 13th. The hours will be as follows:

• Sunday, December 15th 11:30am – 8pm
• Monday, December 16th – Friday, December 20th 7:30am – 6pm

Welcome to our new librarian!

The LSUHSC-NO Libraries would like to welcome our newest librarian, Andrew Olinik, MLIS!

Andrew Olinik, MLIS, has joined the LSUHSC-NO libraries as the Metadata and Digital Projects Librarian. Andrew most recently worked with Northshore Technical Community College as their Electronic Resources Librarian. While at Northshore, Andrew was the Systems Administrator for all campuses where he lead cataloging of material, management of electronic resources, compilation of statistics on database use, and trialing of new electronic resources from vendors and publishers. He also achieved a level 1 certification in the Medical Library Association Consumer Health Information Specialization. Andrew’s previous work, education, and professional development includes special interest in archives, digital projects, and managerial experience.

Andrew is originally from Pennsylvania, just outside Philadelphia and is an avid sports fan. He is a member of the American Library Association (ALA) and the Society of American Baseball Researchers (SABR). In his spare time, Andrew enjoys researching baseball history and sports analytics.”

Thanksgiving Hours

Both the Isché and Dental Libraries will close early on Wednesday, November 27th. The Dental Library will close at 5pm and the Isché Library will close at 6pm.

Both Libraries will remain closed on Thursday and Friday, November 28th and 29th. However, the Isché Library will reopen on Saturday, November 30th to accommodate students who’s exams begin on Monday. The Isché Library will be open its regular hours of 9:30am to 6pm.

Both Libraries will be open regular hours on Sunday, December 1st.

Unmasking Brain Injury moves to the Dental Campus

The Unmasking Brain Injury exhibit from the Brain Injury Association of Louisiana from the Isché Library to the Dental Library. This exhibit of masks made by brain injured individuals promotes awareness of the prevalence of brain injury and gives survivors a voice.

It will be on view at the Dental Library October 23rd through November 7th. It was previously on view at the Isché Library from September 21st through October 21st.

New EBooks Added

The Library has added a small collection of new ebooks. These culturally and socially relevant titles are provided through the LOUIS Library Network and the Oxford Scholarship Online Evidence Based Selection program.

Research Poster Printing – Downtown

Research poster printing is now available at the Isché Library. This service is free of charge and is funded by the School of Graduate Studies. Please see the webpage linked above for more information or contact email icirc@lsuhsc.edu to submit a poster.

Please submit posters at least 3 business days before they are needed; during high demand times (like before Research Day next month), plan for 4 to 5 days.

Unmasking Brain Injury Display

The Isché Library is currently hosting an exhibit from the Brain Injury Association of Louisiana. This exhibit of masks made by brain injured individuals promotes awareness of the prevalence of brain injury and gives survivors a voice.

The exhibit will be in the Isché Library from September 27th through October 21st. It will move to the Dental Library and will be on display October 23rd through November 7th.

Four of the masks include QR codes which when scanned display a video of the mask maker discussing their mask and their brain injury.

Labor Day Hours

Both the Isché and Dental Libraries will be closed on Sunday and Monday, September 1st and 2nd for the Labor Day Holiday.

The Isché Library will be open Friday night until 8pm and on Saturday from 9:30am to 6pm for regular hours.

Both Libraries will reopen for the regular hours on Tuesday morning.

Library Breakfast 7:30-10:30am on August 28th

There will be breakfast pastries, coffee, juice, and Library Information.

New! – AAP EBooks Collection

While you were hopefully enjoying your summer break, the Library has been busy adding ebooks! The new database from American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) adds over 200 ebooks to our collection.   This extensive collection includes a wide range of pediatric topics, from dermatology to parenting.  There are coding manuals and  ebooks on practice management, as well as patient guidelines for new parents.  There are even a few titles in Spanish.

The AAP database platform includes:

• Advanced search capabilities for easy discoverability
• Responsive design for mobile optimization
• Reading app for smartphones and tablets

You can browse the database or search by topic or title.  The titles can also be accessed through the Library catalog.  And we also have access to the AAP database of neonatal resuscitation ebooks.

Pick Your Poison (NLM Exhibit) Moves to the Dental Library

The LSUHSC Libraries are happy to present a National Library of Medicine Traveling Exhibit:

Pick Your Poison: Intoxicating Pleasures & Medical Prescriptions has moved to the Dental Library from August 5th through the 23rd.

It was previously at the Isché Library from July 16th through August 2nd.
