USMLE Practice Questions

The Library now offers 3 databases full of USMLE questions to practice for the USMLE Step exams.

Register for each one and begin taking practice tests. Questions are similar to USMLE questions on the Step exams.

Board Review Series Must set up personal login to activate the self-assessment quizzes.

BoardVitals Initial registration must be created On Campus with your LSUHSC email address. Once account has been created, off campus access will be available as well.

USMLE®easy Select Institutional Sign In Create an institutional student account. Start Practice

Board Review Series uses the same login as LWW Health Library, ebooks, videos, clinical cases, additional self-assessment questions.

BoardVitals uses a different login than StatRef, ebooks, Essential Evidence Plus.

USMLE easy uses a different login than the AccessMedicine databases, which include: AccessEmergencyMedicine, AccessMedicine, AccessNeurology, AccessSurgery, CaseFilesCollection

Library now offers NEJM Resident 360

As part of our New England Journal of Medicine subscription, LSUHSC New Orleans Library patrons now have access to NEJM Resident 360. This product is designed to give students and residents the information, resources, and support they need to approach their rotations – and life as a resident – with confidence.

With Resident 360, residents can supplement their residency curricula and build foundational knowledge with articles, teaching tools, and community members.

In order to use LSUHSC New Orleans’s institutional subscription, log in to NEJM Resident 360 on the LSUHSC school campus, and the LSUHSC IP address will be recognized. After logging in on campus, you will be able to sign on from anywhere, on any device.

Unlimited Users on All Access Products!

The Libraries are happy to announce that all Access products: AccessMedicine, AccessEmergencyMedicine, AccessNeurology and AccessSurgery. Previously we had a limited number of seats to some of these products which prevented more than a few users at once. The access databases provide books (including core textbooks), journals, testing, multimedia, case studies, patient education and study tools. They are also integrated with AccessMedicine – Case Files Collection, with cases in both basic sciences and clinical rotations.

AccessNeurology now available!

We are pleased to announce that AccessNeurology is now available as part of our McGraw-Hill AccessMedicine suite of online resources.  AccessNeurology, like the other AccessMedicine databases, includes online books, videos, drug information, cases, study guides, and tools for educators.  Topics cover the entire spectrum of neurology from the basics to specialty-specific content from authoritative experts in the field. Visual DX Cancelled

The School of Medicine Technology Committee has chosen not to renew Visual DX for the coming fiscal year. They were not seeing enough interest to continue the subscription. The Libraries provided access to the website but did not contribute financially to this product.

Graphic Medicine: Ill-Conceived and Well-Drawn

What happens when health-related issues and cartoons merge? A National Library of Medicine exhibit called, “Graphic Medicine: Ill-Conceived and Well-Drawn!”.  The exhibit will open next week, May 21^st-June 8^th, in the John P. Isché Library Commons. Learn about the latest medical oriented graphic novels and where to find them. After a three week run in the Commons, the display will then arrive at the Dental Campus for the following dates of June 13th-29^th. So, check out the National Library of Medicine exhibition; “Graphic Medicine: Ill-Conceived and Well-Drawn!”.

Yellow Fever Vaccine

If you’re up on your New Orleans medical history, you’ll know that the last outbreak of Yellow Fever here was in 1905. Brazil isn’t so lucky and are in the middle of an outbreak. The CDC is recommending a dose of Yellow Fever vaccine before traveling to Brazil or Africa.

As part of our New Books Display this month, we are highlighting the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) E-book Collection from Ovid Books. New England Journal of Medicine redesigned their website, and the “Download PDF” link has a new appearance. Instead of a link that says “Download PDF”, it is now represented by an arrow pointing down. The download arrow symbol is located on the left side of each article’s page.
