Autumn Faculty Publications

A new selection of articles has been added to the Faculty Publications display in the Isché Library. These eight articles, as well as all the articles in LSU Health Digital Scholar, are authored by at least one member of our research community here at LSUHSC-New Orleans. Each month the Library is proud to present copies of eight of these publications in a rotating display of 16. Check out the display below:

LSUHSC Digital Scholar is an institutional repository and is a service of the LSU Health Science Center Libraries. Research and scholarly output included here has been selected and deposited by the Libraries, as well as individual university departments and centers on campus.

Publications cited in LSU Health Digital Scholar are harvested from a variety of sources, such as PubMed, SCOPUS, and CINAHL, to name a few. In addition to articles, they include books, book chapters, papers, editorials, letters to the editor, and meeting abstracts, all authored by at least one member of the LSUHSC-NO community. You can access LSU Health Digital Scholar at https://digitalscholar.lsuhsc.edu/.

If you have an article that you would like us to highlight or if you have any questions regarding the display or the database, you can contact our Librarians at reference@lsuhsc.edu

UPDATE: Email logins to resources fixed

UPDATE: The OpenAthens issue has been resolved, so logging in with emails via EZproxy and directly at publisher sites is working again.

Original Post: There are problems with the OpenAthens service that is preventing using an email to log into Library resources both through EZproxy and directly at publishers’ sites.

They are working on the problem as it is affecting all users, so until that time when you land on the EZproxy login page, expand the green box and enter your username (without the @lsuhsc.edu part) and your current network password:

Screenshot of login boxes

Please remember barcodes are no longer accepted.

We will update when we have more information, but if you need assistance to get into any Library resources, please contact us.

Library Catalog unavailable September 19th, 11pm

INNOPAC, the Library Catalog, will be unavailable for a couple of hours starting at 11pm on Tuesday, September 19, 2023. The outage is necessary for a system update.

The majority of Library resources will still be available during this time.

Please contact us if you need any assistance.

New way to access Quintessence journals

We are happy to report that through the great generosity of Quintessence Publishing we are able to provide easier access to their journals.

Now, instead of having to log in with a password, you can get to the full text of Quintessence journals by logging in via EZproxy when prompted. The records in our online catalog for the affected journals are updated to reflect this change, and you can get to those journals by clicking on the links on this page.

There are some issues with the links on the E-Books & E-Journals A to Z List, but we will have these updated to use the new access method as soon as we can.

This new access method is accompanied by a revamp of many of the Quintessence journal sites. There are a couple of things to look out for when trying to access the full text of articles on these new pages.

First, to get the PDF of an article, click the “Full Text” link underneath the article’s title to the left, and ignore the greyed out PDF link to the right:

Second, to browse through the issues of a title, scroll down when on the journal’s main page:

We hope this makes accessing content from the Quintessence journals easier. We would also like to thank Quintessence Publishing for their generosity in providing complimentary access to many of the journals we receive from them.

If you need help with this or any other Library resources, please contact us.

New Systematic Review Service

The LSU Health Libraries are pleased to announce the launch of a new Systematic Review Service available to all LSUHSC faculty, researchers, staff, and students. Our trained librarians are available to partner with you on your comprehensive literature search projects, including scoping and narrative reviews too. We offer two tiers of collaboration, Expert Consultant and Co-Author, to meet the needs of your individual project. Access to our institutional subscription to Covidence, a systematic review management tool, is also available through our new service. Please visit our new LibGuide to learn more about this service. We also have a Form you can submit to request a meeting with a member of our Systematic Review team.

Labor Day Closure

The Libraries will be closed Saturday, Sunday and Monday for the Labor Day Holiday. The Library Commons will be open all weekend.

The Dental Library will close at 5pm on Friday, September 1st and reopen at 8am on Tuesday, September 4th. The Isché Library will close at 6pm on Friday and reopen at 7:30am on Tuesday.

WiFi networks in the Library

With the start of the new semester and the welcoming of new and returning students, we’d like to share a tip that will hopefully make getting your daily work done much easier. When on campus, please make sure to choose LSUHSC-Secure as the WiFi network.

If you somehow connect to Eduroam, LSUHSC-Visitor, or any of the other available networks, you will not be able to access Library resources easily nor print to the PayPaw system. You can also ensure you do not connect to any of these networks by unchecking “Connect automatically” if it is selected.

For those using Macs, you can set LSUHSC-Secure as your preferred network.

If you need assistance, please contact us.

5th Floor Project Diary: Disappearing acts

For those who are new to campus or are returning from summer break, the 5th Floor is now home to a major project to remove over 30,000 bound volumes and shift the entirety of the remaining 90,000+ volumes to make room for a new IT data center. As our previous project diaries show, this continues to be an involved, chaotic, and, at times, very loud undertaking. There is an illustration at the top of the stairs on the 5th Floor showing what areas are affected and describing more about this project.

The past few days, though, have been ones to make magicians jealous with the quick disappearance of thousands of volumes.

Some may have been in awe of The Stack on the 5th Floor:

Photo of stacks of bound journals

By Tuesday morning, August 8, The Stack was no more:

However, with an additional 7,000 or so volumes still needing removal, The New Stack will arise in its place.

If you have any questions about this project or need assistance with any Library resources, please contact us.

Problems accessing Quintessence journals online

UPDATE: Please see our post from September 15, 2023, regarding resolution of this issue

Quintessence Publishing recently updated their website, and we are having problems logging into the online content for journals on the new site. Most links from the records in the catalog go to the old site, where the logins work correctly. However, if you are redirected to the new site, please note you are unable to log in to get articles.

We are working with our subscription agent to resolve the issue and will update when we know more.

Please let us know if you need help with this or any other Library resources.

The Library is now on Instagram!

The Library has launched an Instagram account, which can be found under the username @lsuhscnolibrary on Instagram. The Library plans to use this account to post about new and existing resources, events happening at the library, holiday closures, and other fun and interesting content related to the Library and the community it serves.

The account can also be accessed via desktop browser at this link (https://www.instagram.com/lsuhscnolibrary/). However, please note that Instagram does not always load correctly on web browsers without being signed into an Instagram account, so some issues may occur reaching the account this way.
