New NLM/NIH Display at the Ische Library

The Isché Library is pleased to host the National Library of Medicine/National Institutes of Health display: Pictures of Nursing: the Zwerdling Postcard Collection, which explores the relationship of nursing to events in 20th-century life and how nursing was perceived.  For more information on the exhibit, visit the NLM exhibition page.

The exhibit will be in the Library Commons from Monday, March 24th through Friday April 21st.

Two course books added online!

The Library is pleased to announce that we have received special funding from the Board of Regents e-Textbook Project, Affordable Learning LOUISiana, to purchase 2 required textbooks for Spring 2017:

Analyzing and conceptualizing the theoretical foundations of nursing by Janice Morse (2017) for NURS 7307 taught by Dr. Gloria Giarratano

Vestibular disorders: a case-study approach to diagnosis and treatment, 3rd ed., by Joseph Furman (2010) for SPTHAUD 7323 taught by Rachel Wood.

These books are available with unlimited users and can be accessed anytime and from anywhere (on or off campus) through the EBSCO eBook Collection.

Dr. Joseph C. Rallo, Commissioner of Higher Education, directed the Board of Regents to find ways that the state could help students with the increasing costs of education and, in particular, textbooks.  The Affordable Learning LOUISiana program is coordinated by LOUIS: the Louisiana Library Network, a consortium of higher education libraries in the state. Through LOUIS, member libraries can participate in a variety of collaborative purchases that help reduce the costs of library resources such as databases, online journals, and ebooks.  LSUHSC-NO has been a member library for many years, and we are grateful for the LOUIS staff and all of their efforts to help improve higher education in the state of Louisiana.

The Isché Library is kicking off the fall semester by featuring E-book editions of required textbooks! The newest editions of the books on display are available in our online catalog.

LSUHSC-NO Nursing School Ranks Among Top 10 in U.S!

The School of Nursing at LSUHSC New Orleans was ranked among the top ten schools in the United States in the inaugural rankings of Nursing Schools Almanac.

Our School of Nursing ranked ninth on the list of Top 100 nursing schools in the United States, second overall in the Southeast, and fifth among public nursing schools in the United States!

Nursing Schools Almanac’s mission is to provide an accurate, complete, and powerful online resource for aspiring nurses to make educational decisions.

Their research team collected data on more than 3,200 nursing schools and campuses throughout the United States and evaluated each school on three dimensions: the institution’s academic prestige and perceived value; the breadth and depth of nursing programs offered; and student success, particularly on the NCLEX national licensure exam.

Congratulations to the School of Nursing for standing out as a NLN Center of Excellence™ and sustaining an impressive pass rate of 95-98% on the NCLEX-RN exam over the past six years!

The Library is not able to renew our subscription to ClinicalKey for Nursing due to lack of funds. Our access is set to expire Monday, April 25, 2016.

Many of the online journals offered through ClinicalKey for Nursing are also available through our ScienceDirect package. While there isn’t an online alternative for accessing the books, many of these titles can be found in the Library’s print collection.
