Reserve Anatomy Book Now Available as an Ebook

We are pleased to announce that The Developing Human: Clinically Oriented Embryology, 10th edition, is now available in an Ebook format.

From the record in the library catalog, click on the link for EBSCOhost Ebooks. We have 3 “copies” available, so we are allowed 3 concurrent online users.

The print edition is on reserve for ANAT 100 – Gross Anatomy and ANAT 101 – Human Prenatal Development.  But we think you’ll find the electronic edition to be much lighter.

A new selection of articles has been added to the Faculty Publications display in the Ische Library. Carnival Time Hours

Library Shoebox Float – 2010

The Libraries will have shortened hours surrounding Carnival.

• Friday, February 24th both the Dental and Isché Libraries close at 5 pm.
• Saturday, February 25th the Isché Library will be open regular hours from 9:30 am to 6 pm & the Dental Library will be closed.
• Sunday, February 26th the Dental Library will be open regular hours from 11:30 am to 8 pm & the Isché Library will be open 12 noon to 8:30 pm.
• Monday, February 27th both Libraries will be open 8 am to 5 pm.
• Tuesday, February 28th both Libraries will be closed for Mardi Gras.
• Wednesday, March 1st the Dental Library will be open 8 am to 5 pm. The Isché Library will be open regular hours 8 am to 12 midnight.
• Thursday, March 2nd the Dental Library will be open 8 am to 5 pm. The Isché Library will be open regular hours 8 am to 12 midnight.

Prosthetics & orthotics in clinical practice, more access available!

Prosthetics & orthotics in clinical practice, by Bella J. May, is now available online through the EBSCOhost eBooks platform, as well as through the R2 Digital Library.  The Library was able to purchase multiple-user access through EBSCO, so now more than one user can access the book at the same time.  Our R2 Digital Library access for this book allows for one user at a time.

This book is required for course PHTH 7234 – Prosthetics and Orthotics in Physical Therapy.  We hope this additional access will be helpful!

New Coffee Vending Machine in Library Commons!

A new coffee vending machine has been installed in the Isché Library Commons! When the need to refuel while studying strikes, just go to the 3rd floor Library Commons for a cup of coffee, tea, or hot chocolate.

Don’t forget that the Commons are open 24/7!

Coffee is $.75, and everything else is $1.00 (tea, hot chocolate, latte, etc.). The machines take cash only (no PayPaw).

ProQuest Product Maintenance This Weekend

Attention Weekend Research Warriors! ProQuest will be taking down their site for product maintenance this weekend. This will affect our access of their database Saturday night beginning at 9pm until Sunday morning at about 5am. Of course these times may vary slightly as with any database maintenance. Hopefully the upgrades will run smoothly and we will be up and running for our Sunday warriors.

The notice from ProQuest:
Over the weekend of Saturday-Sunday, 28-29 Jan. 2017, a ProQuest product maintenance window will launch worldwide to upgrade infrastructure, enhance security, and maintain reliability of your products.

The Isché Library is starting 2017 by featuring new books and E-books! Some of these books are required for Spring 2017 classes, so come and see if one of your textbooks is on display.

Libraries Closed on MLK Jr Day

Both the Dental and Isché Libraries will be closed in honor of Martin Luther King, Jr Day on Monday, January 16th. The Libraries will be open their regular hours over the weekend.

Hanna Kwasik retires from the Libraries

Hanna Kwasik, Head-Cataloging and Serials, retired from the Libraries on December 31, 2016. After working at the Earl K. Long Library at the University of New Orleans, Hanna joined the staff of the Isché Library in September 1999 as Serials Librarian. During her time at LSUHSC, Hanna guided the Libraries’ transition from predominantly print to electronic resources. Of note was that during the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, she helped to ensure that LSUHSC patrons were able to access Library resources while spread throughout the state by transforming the journal collection to online-only almost overnight. Hanna has served as a mentor and friend to her many coworkers and colleagues throughout Louisiana and the region.

Hanna is also an avid and award-winning photographer. In 2014, her photo of an assassin bug and hibiscus plant received a second-place commendation in the Times-Picayune Garden Photo Contest. Her photo “Gondola Ride Under the Clouds” received the first-place award in the recreation-sports category for the Advocate’s “Heart of City Park” photo contest. In addition, her photo of violets was featured in the 2014 LSU Ag Center calendar.

Although we will miss her tremendously, we all wish Hanna much happiness and joy and she embarks on this new chapter in her life.

Two course books added online!

The Library is pleased to announce that we have received special funding from the Board of Regents e-Textbook Project, Affordable Learning LOUISiana, to purchase 2 required textbooks for Spring 2017:

Analyzing and conceptualizing the theoretical foundations of nursing by Janice Morse (2017) for NURS 7307 taught by Dr. Gloria Giarratano

Vestibular disorders: a case-study approach to diagnosis and treatment, 3rd ed., by Joseph Furman (2010) for SPTHAUD 7323 taught by Rachel Wood.

These books are available with unlimited users and can be accessed anytime and from anywhere (on or off campus) through the EBSCO eBook Collection.

Dr. Joseph C. Rallo, Commissioner of Higher Education, directed the Board of Regents to find ways that the state could help students with the increasing costs of education and, in particular, textbooks.  The Affordable Learning LOUISiana program is coordinated by LOUIS: the Louisiana Library Network, a consortium of higher education libraries in the state. Through LOUIS, member libraries can participate in a variety of collaborative purchases that help reduce the costs of library resources such as databases, online journals, and ebooks.  LSUHSC-NO has been a member library for many years, and we are grateful for the LOUIS staff and all of their efforts to help improve higher education in the state of Louisiana.
